World of Goo has been considered one of the best games of 2008.
Kyle Gabler, the musician behind the original soundtrack, now gives us the opportunity of having it all for free. All 27 musics can be downloaded from the author site.
I know that for many people this is a great news, specially because the game received much love.
Thanks to Kotaku for the heads up.
Little did I knew when I first used DOSBox that it was such a great program.
For those who don’t know DOSBox it is a MS-DOS emulator. In even more simple terms it allows to play those old MS-DOS games in current Operating Systems (like Windows Vista for example).
You can download DOSBox from here. You have to create a drive before running any program by writing in the DOSBox window “mount c c:“. For more help visit the Basic Setup and Instalation of DOSBox guide.
For those who miss the old games this is a great chance to revisit some of them.
And it gets even better: DOSBox works in Windows, MAC and Linux.
Review:

Yesterday finally Orion´s Belt 2.0 was launched in Open Beta.
This is one of my favorite web game ever. It’s a Sci-fi MMO played in a browser. What makes him different are the battles: they are played in a board (similar to chess).
When I started playing Orion’s Belt (back in the first version) it striked me as a great game. Had it all: you could manage an empire and battle your opponents.
But Orion’s Belt also had one major difference to all the leading games in the market (like Travian or Ogame): you had to fight your own battles. That means that tactics are the most important thing (or one of the most important). In other words Orion’s Belt is different because it’s a trully tactical MMO where the battles are played like a chess game.
Since then I quited playing most web games due to lack of time. Orion’s Belt is still the one that I play (unfortunately not as much has I would like).
So if you liked it and feel like trying it, just follow my link to this great game. You’ll have a lots of fun. And it’s free.
Don’t know exactly why but today I’m feeling a bit nostalgic.
One of my favorite games ever must surely be SimCity. And was also one of the first games I bought.

It was first released back in 1993 and at the time published by Maxis (now part of Electronic Arts). It’s one of the best (if not THE best) game by Will Wright.
For those who don’t know the game in Simcity you have to build a city and manage it. Simple, yet sometimes extremely hard. You have to pay attention to some important variables. Achieve the balance between the different kind of zones (commercial, residential and industrial) and supply all the necessary services for the city to work.

In addition to starting and growing your own you could also play the scenarios. In this game mode you became the mayor of an already existing city and had to solve some kind of problem. In some cities it was traffic, in others crime and one even had development issues that required your attention.
Don’t know exactly why I remembered this old game today, specially because I haven’t play it for a long time, but I did.
It was (and still is) very fun and sometimes I still play this game. And what about you?
Recently I’ve purchased (finally) World of Warcraft. It was something that I long ago expected to do.

And because the game deserves it I treated it in a special way. Also for the first time I’ve done an unboxing. You can see it all in my Flickr! account.

The install had his problems so I used the time to make the unboxing photos. Unfortunately I still didn’t had any time to actually play it.
But because today is Friday and the weekend is here I will finally have time to do it.
I can’t wait for it.
If you see me there dont be shy and drop me a word. And maybe you can give me some help (remeber I’m still a noob).
In the end of November I’ve found that Blizzard was offering a 10 day trial period of World of Warcraft an so I decided do try the game.
As expected I was hooked instantly.
When the 10 day trial ended i bought myself a copy but never got to install it due to some lack of time. Finally I started the installation process. And I say started because it´s taking a little more than I initially thought.
The DVD installs in just a couple of minutes. The problem comes later with the patches that must be downloaded.
In total there are almost 5 GB to be downloaded just in patches and updates.
My internet connections is fast. But even so it’s taking almost 15 hours to complete this process. And I’m lucky because my internet plan has unlimited downloads.
But the cheaper plans only have 10 Gb of internet downloads. In just one day the limits is half used. For those people it will certainly make then go over the limit and pay additional traffic in the first month.
So WoW already used 5 Gb of internet traffic and used almost 2 hours of my time. And I’ve not even started playing it!
Just like the post before this is also something like “the best of 2008″. At least for me.
One of the many games that I tried during the past year was DOFUS. I must admit that my first impression of the game wasn’t the best one.
I got to know DOFUS because the fellows at Ankama send me a press release about the new server for the Portuguese community (Brazil and Portugal).
The problem with many MMORPG is the language: English. Although this choice of language will reach a greater range of players, also draws away a lot of players who do not speak or feel comfortable with English. So increasingly MMORPG offer servers in several languages.
This is the case of DOFUS. The Portuguese server of this game was launched during April 2008 and quickly achieved success among the players who speak Portuguese (Brazilian players in particular).
As for me after two months I was playing in the international server and completely abandoned the Portuguese speaking one.
The game concept is not different from many existing ones. But if it works why change it?
But DOFUS has a unique look. Is inspired in Manga characters and the design team did a great job at it. And is entirely based on Flash that gives him a big advantage over other titles out there as it runs in almost every computer (new or old).
There are 12 characters and 20 professions. For a player with some experience in RPG it’s easy to identify the choices to be made and the professions to follow but for a beginner it’s not so easy. But at least with this diversity you can not become bored.
It’s a fun game and well thought. Has an excellent gameplay and the combat engine is very well made. Here again DOFUS presents something different, where tactics in battles are also important. It is not enough to have a strong character and well built. The tactical ability can (and it will) also make a difference.
Finally I wanted to emphasize the great solution to avoid a common problem in MMORPG: lag. When the computer detects having some lag it changes the design of the characters from 3D to 2D images, which almost solves the problem immediately. When the problems passes the graphics go back to normal.
I enjoy playing it and continue to do so. In free to play mode you can have access to a restricted area. Those who want more have to pay to have access to updates, new sites and other content. 5,00€ per month is after all a good deal.
